Bryan C. Thompson was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on September 6, 1975. In five short semesters he successfully obtained a B.S. in Political Science from Appalachian State University in December, 1995 and three years later, at the age of twenty-three, a J.D., cum laude, from Norman Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in May, 1999. In 2018, Bryan obtained a Masters in the Study of Health Care Law and Public Policy from Wake Forest University School of Law.
Bryan is a member in good standing of the North Carolina State Bar having been licensed in July, 1999. After one year as an associate with John R. Surratt, P.A., he became a member of the firm at which time the firm was named Surratt & Thompson, PLLC. In 2023, Bryan joined the firm of Robinson & Lawing, LLP. Bryan Thompson was appointed Public Administrator and Public Guardian of Forsyth County, North Carolina in 2006, Public Administrator and Public Guardian of Davie County, North Carolina in 2010, and Public Administrator and Public Guardian of Davidson County, North Carolina in 2017. In this role, Bryan is called on to provide estate administration and guardianship services as an independent person when required by the Court. His legal practice areas are broad and include the following: Elder Law, Wills and Estate Planning, Trusts and Estates, Guardianship, Corporate Law, Collections, Taxation, Consumer Law, Residential / Commercial Real Estate and Health Care Law. Mr. Thompson has had the privilege of representing clients in state and federal courts as well as numerous federal and state regulatory bodies. Mr. Thompson has been appointed by the NC State Bar to wind down, as Trustee, law firms of attorneys who have experienced disabilities.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Thompson is actively involved in his community serving on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army in Winston-Salem from 2005 until 2019 (Board Chair 2010 to 2012), the Stewardship Committee of River Oaks Community Church, the Human Rights Committee of Centerpoint Human Services from 2008 to 2016 (Chair 2009 to 2012), the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Guardianship Association (past President and Chair), and Centerpoint Human Services Governing Board from 2008 to 2016 (Chair 2013 to 2016). Mr. Thompson was appointed to the Governing Board of Cardinal Innovations, the largest Medicaid managed organization in the State of North Carolina, in September, 2016 and served as the Chairman of the Board. Mr. Thompson served on the 2013 DHHS, Division of Aging and Adult Services Ad Hoc Guardianship Workgroup and was appointed in 2017 to the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission as an advisory member for the Clerk of Superior Court Mediation pilot program. Mr. Thompson is an active speaker and presenter for various professional conferences on the topics of public health, governmental programs and elder / disability law. Most importantly, Mr. Thompson is married to Sharon Thompson and is the father of two daughters, Nina and Sophia, with whom he meanders around the world experiencing new cultures, making new friends, and reminding himself and his family that we all are but one small voice.
