About
Ray graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with an engineering degree and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. After selection and completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1983, Ray commanded two Special Forces A-teams in Central America until the Army selected him to attend Law School at the University of North Carolina School. In addition to graduating with honors, he served on the North Carolina Law Review and received the Order of the Coif.
Ray’s principal areas of practice in complex equitable distribution, complex business litigation, and executive compensation. He is the past chairperson of the North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section. Ray has taught at the District Court Judges’ Conference, has served as an Ethics Instructor for the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism, and is a frequent speaker on the rules of evidence and trial practice at Continuing Legal Education seminars. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America for over a decade and has been repeatedly named in the top five percent of North Carolina Lawyers by Charlotte Magazine and Our State Magazine.
